John Lewis win ultimate customer service accolade- 16 January 2009

The inaugural ICS Customer Satisfaction Awards took place at the Dorchester Hotel in London yesterday.

A total of 33 organisations were vying for top spot across 11 different industry sectors with John Lewis taking the accolade of overall winner.

"I am absolutely delighted to accept this award on behalf of John Lewis and the many hard-working partners who made it possible," said Victoria Abbey, development manager, customer service.

"It is recognition of our commitment to the highest possible standards of customer service and we are very proud that this award was voted for by customers."

The contenders qualified by achieving a top three place in their business sector in the latest UK Customer Satisfaction Index (UKCSI), the results of which were announced yesterday.

“The winners of these awards are selected by the people who matter – their own customers,” said ICS chief executive David Parsons, who presented the awards.

“There can be no greater recognition of the hard work being done by organisations to excel in customer service than that given by the customers themselves.”

The other sector Awards winners were:

  • Automotive: Honda (UK)
  • Finance – insurance: Saga
  • Finance – banks/building societies: first direct
  • Government departments/agencies: The Ambulance Service
  • Leisure and Tourism: Premier Inn
  • Retail – food: Waitrose
  • Retail - non food: John Lewis
  • Services: Autoglass
  • Telecommunications: O2
  • Transport: Virgin Atlantic
  • Utilities: Scottish and Southern Energy
